Global Ethics Day 2020

The Academy for Integrated and Sustainable Development (AISD) celebrated the Global Ethics Day on 16 October 2020 at its premise at Wootton in collaboration with The Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants (MIPA). 16 October is celebrated worldwide as the Global Ethics Day. This year was the 7ixth anniversary. This annual, international day is an initiative by the Carnegie Council, encouraging Organisations to hold programmes focusing on ethics, such as lectures, film screenings, debates, panel discussions, or activities to protect the environment.

It was the second consecutive year AISD celebrated this event, though this year it was graced by the marked presence of Honourable Mahen Seeruttun, Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance who delivered the keynote address on the theme, ‘Conscience and Choice: Ethics for a Sustainable Society’.

Mr. Atmaramsing Seepargauth, Chairperson AISD welcomed the chief guest and all invitees present at the peaceful and serene environment of AISD. Pradeep Jagutpal, the Coordinator of the Academy, highlighted the various activities organised by the Academy such as yogic farming, Road Safety Campaign, self-empowerment program for children in distress, an awareness campaign for diabetic patients, stress management through neurofeedback, and so on. He also mentioned that very soon they will come forth with the project, Kite Flying, for both entertainment and to enable skills development in aerodynamics for children. Mr. Jagutpal thanked Jubilee Insurance (Mauritius) Ltd represented by its CEO, Mrs. Pamela Bussier for sponsoring this event for the second year.

Mr. Vivek Gujadhur, the Chairperson of MIPA, in his speech gave an insight on how MIPA is preparing its members to live up to the challenge of a profession respected for its high level of integrity.

Dr. Andatta Teelokee, Ethics Officer at Jubilee Insurance (Mauritius) Ltd and Consultant at Think Right Consultancy in his concluding note said, “The conscience acts as a control or check over any selfish propensities that attempt to block the innate flow of compassion, benevolence, and sympathy for others.”. He ended his speech with a meditation commentary on how silence unblocks the pathway to our inner conscience.
